LibraryThing Book Giveaways

We have three copies of Love and Hate by J. B. Williams available as giveaways on Librarything. That is the good news. The bad news as far as your chances of getting one are that there are already over 100 people have put their names down for them, so the chances aren't too good. We are anticipating putting some ebook versions of Love and Hate up for the same scheme when the paperback giveaway finishes in November. All you have to do is be prepared to post a review on Librarything.

Comments on Worsted to Westminster

We've had a lovely letter - some people still write them - written with pen and ink from Philip Charlesworth on how much he was enjoying reading Worsted to Westminster. He lives in the Colne Valley and remembers Charles Leach's name as a former MP. He comments 'I am finding your comments on chapel life in neighbouring Halifax fascinating. I have always known something of it of course, but your account brings vivid reminders to this field.' He concludes: ' Many accounts of 'poverty to prominence' have appeared in recent years and I account your work one of the most valuable.'

As we said it was a lovely letter.

Novels by J. B. Williams

Over the first few months of 2010 we will be launching three novels by J. B. Williams; Love and Hate, The Dykebreak, and Unreasonable Men. These have been available as ebooks for some time, but have now been made available also as paperbacks. Actually they can be obtained from our site www.darcypress.co.uk now but the formal launch has been delayed until the new year. Why, I hear you ask as most books are bought in the run up to Christmas. It is quite simple. All the big suppliers know this and launch their books in the autumn - result everyone else gets drowned out. In the new year you have a little more chance of being heard.

Airship Pilot No. 28

Captain T B Williams' classic autobiography Airship Pilot No 28 is now available as a paperback after thirty years out of print.
For those interested in the history of aviation and airships this book is a must. It covers 50 years of adventures in Balloons and Airships by one of the pioneers in the field. From the dangerous occupation of fighting submarines in a hydrogen filled airship in the First World War to the resurgence of the modern Hot Air Balloon, he was there.

Worsted to Westminster

Darcy Press has launched this new biography: Worsted to Westminster: The Extraordinary Life of the Rev Dr Charles Leach MP.
He was the only MP to ever lose his seat for being of 'unsound mind'. It is extraordinary that no one else has ever done so - there have been plenty of candidates. The book examines the reasons for this and shows how he got to this point after a successful career and rising from a humble background.
